5 Best Songs to Make you feel more Christmas-ey

Yes Christmas-ey is a word. I looked it up.

OK, it’s Christmas, and it’s not a good time to lie. I did not look it up, but if it’s not a word it should be.

This has been a sucky past month. Work, home, surgery planned on the knee, working out that insurance does not cover surgery on the knee, realizing my medical benefits end in 30 days… and then there is the smorgasbord of required Christmas shopping and Cheer.

And then there is my beautiful, wonderful Christmas angel, also sometimes known as daughter, who in no uncertain terms warned me about my lack of Christmas spirit the day following Thanksgiving.

"Wonky the Tree"

“Wonky the Tree”

It made me think of the last seven years, of setting up the decorations and getting the house ready for Santa. Since a wee child, Christmas has always been my favorite of holidays, not just because of the gifts and of course little baby Jesus, but it was always a time my family came together in London. And it was awesome.

Now it feels more like work. And the energy-draining lead up to dealing with a day with the ex and her new family. It’s all very pleasant (and probably unusual that we are all together), but it is still uncomfortable and not at all Christmas-ey. So last year I got everything ready only two weeks before, and apparently this was not going to work this year. I’m not sure whether it’s because it’s my daughters senior year, but she spurred us into action and decorated an amazing tree (nicknamed Wonky, after my son who chose it, and well the tree is a tad bit crooked with some branch holes).

It was also a reminder that there is always light after dark, and sometimes, especially in the fall, the dark nights and gloomy days can last a little longer. We have a responsibility to ourselves and to those around us to push on a little harder and post-Thanksgiving to be Thankful for what we have and our health and spread the Christmas Cheer and as “Buddy” Says –

Love and Christmas-ey Cheer,
