Note to an Old Friend
No way around it.
Whatever road led you to the “divorced” category, it just straight up blows. No one who gets it will deny you that. This is NOT what anyone who walked down an aisle, showed up at the JP, or anything in between had in mind.
And here you are.
We have all been there, too. The raw nerves, every little thing hurts in a way that nothing has ever hurt before, and it seems like no one on the face of the whole entire Earth can possibly imagine the very real Hell on Earth you are living…Right. Now.
Take a deep breath. Step away from the insanity that is your life right this second. And listen.
You are going to be okay.
You’re not going to be okay tomorrow. Or next week, and next month isn’t really looking promising either. The person you’d completely banked on getting old with is going to be getting old with someone else–at least that’s all you can think about right now. Just know that you are in for one of the most grueling transformations you hadn’t planned on making. Here’s my challenge–make it work for you.
If you have to go through a divorce, get everything, learn everything, take everything positive you can from an experience that none of us wanted to encounter.
One more challenge. One more opportunity to take a step back and reflect on what you’re about, what you WANT to be about, and how you can move forward to become more of the things you want to see in the world. If you have to go through this stage of life, eek every possible learning opportunity, parenting opportunity, and personal growth opportunity you can out of this transition. When Life kicks your sand castle down to nothing, what have you got to lose?
Not a damn thing.
Figure out where you want to go. Dream SO big. And then go be the force of nature that makes the world you are entrusted to live in a better one than you found it.
No one begrudges your being a monumental amount of pissed off at probably what amounts to the whole entire universe. We have all been there. And we have all moved on in our own ways to make life something we are proud of, something we believe in, something worth the monumental suffering that was our own heartbreak.
What are you going to do with this opportunity to start over? That’s the best place for your energy right now, so get after it.
There’s the “tude” in case you were wondering…
