Breaking up is always a hard thing to do and can leave you in a depressed state of mind or feeling bad about yourself.

When this happened to me I found that listening to music was a great way to lift my spirits and surprisingly helped me get over my last relationship. Music can be a great way for you to improve your mental state and improve your attitude. Because of the passionate nature of music in general, there’s no wonder why many of the songs on this list were created simply out of a breakup or messy relationship.

The songs on this list can help you move on from a bad breakup, and get you into the right frame of mind to find a healthy relationship in the future. Some of these songs are geared to lift you up, while some of these can help you close the book on your previous relationship. Whatever mood of music you are into at the moment, there’s no lack of songs about moving on from a break up.

Especially powerful for those coming out of a long relationship, this song speaks to many people on different levels. Although it’s originally performed by Elvis Costello and sung about a woman, it can apply to anyone going through a difficult time.

One of the true classics there are many lines of this song that can help you realize just how to close out the last relationship and improve your outlook. It’s a song of finalizing and realizing that it must have been love before, but it’s truly over now.

Powerful and emotional this ballad by the beautiful and talented Toni Braxton can heal your heart and improve you emotional state. This song can help you bring back joy to your life and use love to kiss the pain away.

Bonnie Tyler – “Total Eclipse of the Heart”

Emotionally charged and powerful on many levels, this song by Bonnie Tyler helps you come to grips with your past relationship and move on.

Bill Withers – “Ain’t No Sunshine (When She’s Gone)”

    Wow! what a great list here, thanks for sharing this list with all of us here. Personally my favorite songs is Roxette – “It Must Have Been Love”. This song brings up so much memories. Still a great song till this day. Simply love this song awesome!
